Website Image Guidlines

There are 3 different types images sizes that are saved when you upload a video to the website:

Acceptable Image Files: jpeg, jpg, png

Image Size Limit: 2MB

Horizontal Crop

Used on News*, CVs, Module Thumbnails, Highlights. Minimum Image Dimensions: 720 x 390 pixels

Square Crop

Used on Profile/Headshot, Lists, News Thumbnails and Works. Minimum Dimensions: 300 x 300 pixels

Book Jacket

Used for all book covers. Minimum Dimensions: 350 x 535 pixels

Original File

Used on Front page*, full size images in Image Galleries** and Highlights

* Front page images must be cropped to 16:9 ratio be resized to between 1500 and 2000 pixels wide before uploading
** Photos in Image Galleries should ideally be resized to max width/height of 1000 pixels before uploading

SOURCING IMAGES & IMAGE USE PERMISSIONS

Always try to source the best quality image/s from the official source such as the Client, Production Company or Publisher.

When you request an image from the Production Company, Publisher or Client please ensure you include the following line in your request email:

Wording when requesting images from Production Company/Publisher:

Please could you provide images of [Client Name] in [Production Name] that are cleared for use on our website and across social media. Please advise on any necessary credits required.

Wording when requesting images from client:

Please could you provide images of yourself in [Production Name]. Please be aware that photographers own rights in the photos they take unless those photos are bought or licensed from the photographer. Therefore, please only supply us images that are cleared for use on our website and across social media. Please let us know if any necessary photographer credits are required.
When you are sent any images please reply with the following:

Wording when you are sent images by a Production Company/Publisher:

Thank you for sending the image/s of [Client Name] in [Production/Publication Name]. Please note that images supplied to Curtis Brown may be used on Curtis Brown’s website and on social media in order to promote the client, and so by having sent these images to us we shall assume that the necessary photographer clearances have been obtained. If this is not the case please let us know immediately.

Wording when you are sent images by a client:

Thank you for sending these images of yourself in [Production/Publication Name]. Please be aware that photographers own rights in the photos they take unless those photos are bought or licensed from the photographer. Therefore, images must only be supplied to us that are cleared for use on our website and across social media, and we shall assume that is the case for these images. If this is not the case you must let us know right away.

GOOGLE IMAGES

Please do not rely Google Images as your main source as it is very likely that any images you find will be copyright protected. They are also likely to be the wrong size and poor quality.

However, Google is good way of researching what images that are available and is the best way of tracking down the details of the copyright holder so you know who you need to speak to when requesting permission to use the image.

If you use copyright protected images without getting a licence then that can result in legal action against Curtis Brown for copyright infringement. Therefore, if you’re in any doubt at all about the status of an image please speak to Angie McFarlane before using an image.

GETTY IMAGES/PHOTO LIBRARIES

Getty Images and other stock image libraries are often the main source of images from awards and film premieres. These images are not available to use for free, even though they often pop up in web searches on other websites, the website is likely to have licensed and paid for the images for use. NEVER USE THESE! Photo libraries crawl the internet looking for unlicensed uses of their images and will take legal action against Curtis Brown if they find a photo on our site that is not properly licensed from them.

Curtis Brown have an account with Getty. It costs £192 per image for a license which covers use on our website and social media channels for up to 1 year.

If you find an image that you would like to use on Getty please speak to your line manager and Angie for approval before downloading any images.

Official Film/Programme Poster (supplied by Prod Co)
Film/TV still photos (supplied by Prod Co)
Book Jacket (supplied by Publishers)
Approved Headshots / Client Photos (supplied by Client)
Official marketing materials (supplied by Prod Co or Publisher)
Photos you have taken

DON’T USE
Images from web search (ie. Google as these are most likely copyright protected)
Images from other websites (as these are also likely to be copyright protected)
Images from magazines (taken out of context)
Watermarked images
Picture agency or Stock library images
Copyright protected images

EDITING IMAGES
Pixlr Express is free online photo editor which is really handy for editing and resizing your images to work on the site, checking image size, cropping, adding text labels (copyright) and creating simple collage images of multiple clients/works for news articles (Pixlr Collages are not suitable for front page images).

NAMING IMAGE FILES

Give your image a proper name.
Avoid using spaces in the title you can either leaving our or use hyphens in place of spaces when saving.
Avoid using special characters or accents.
The below examples are fine:
Client-Name.jpg
Project-Title.jpg
